Floater Frame Smoke Blue - Standard
Custom sizes up to 120 × 120 cm
Our smoke blue floater frames with a standard profile are suitable for canvas and panel prints. The muted blue lies between mid blue and grey blue and looks lighter or darker depending on the light. Dark lines and small speckles give the surface a subtle vintage character.
At the corners, the contrast lines continue along the mitre over the outer edge to the back, creating a deliberately striking corner finish.
The frame is delivered fully assembled. Pre-drilled holes and the screws supplied make it easy to attach your picture.
- Suitable for stretched canvases with Standard bars approx. 2 cm deep
- Also suitable for panel prints made of e.g. Dibond, Forex or acrylic: glue wooden battens to the back and screw them to the frame
- Scope of delivery: screws for attaching the picture and 1 hanger up to 75 cm side length, or 2 hangers from 80 cm
- The lines may vary slightly at the mitred corners
- Also available in other colours
Order the size of your picture: the inner size of the frame is approx. 1.2 cm wider and taller. When the picture is centred, this creates a shadow gap of approx. 6 mm per side.

In these instructions, we show you how to assemble your floater frame and securely fix a stretcher frame in it.
To screw a picture or stretcher frame into the floater frame, you need screws, a cross-head screwdriver and spacers. Screws are included. For the spacers, you can use small pieces of wood, MDF, plastic, felt or cardboard. It is important that the pieces are roughly the same thickness so that the picture is fixed centrally in the frame.
Mounting steps
- Place the stretcher frame centrally into the floater frame from the front.
- Insert spacers of equal thickness on all sides between the picture and the frame.
- Turn the frame over while holding the picture and frame between your thumb and fingers. The gentle clamping pressure of the spacers makes turning easier.
- Fix the stretcher frame in the floater frame from the back using the supplied (or your own) narrow wood screws. The holes are already pre-drilled. Only tighten the screws lightly to moderately and do not use a cordless screwdriver.
- Remove the spacers and hang the framed picture.
Order the floater frame in the size of your picture – you don't need to add anything
Example: If your picture or stretcher frame measures 50 x 50 cm, order the floater frame in 50 x 50 cm as well. We take the gap into account automatically. The frame is made approx. 1.2 cm wider and taller on the inside than your picture. In this example, this results in an inside dimension of approx. 51.2 x 51.2 cm and a gap of approx. 0.6 cm all round.
How to measure: Measure the width and height of your picture or stretcher frame, each from outer edge to outer edge.
Important: order size = picture size, not the outside dimensions of the floater frame.
Tip: Use our Floater Frame Finder.

As standard, you can order floater frames in 5 cm increments. From an edge length of 200 cm, only 10 cm increments are possible. Custom sizes in 1 cm increments are possible. Half centimetres or millimetre increments, however, are not.
Here's how:
- Round up your required size to an orderable size (e.g. from 53 × 76 cm to 55 × 80 cm).
- Add the frame to your cart and complete the checkout.
- In the final step you will find a comment field. Enter:
“Please make the frame in a different size: 53 × 76 cm.”
Your custom size will then be made to exactly these dimensions and safely recorded for production. As a rule, you will then receive a corrected order confirmation once our customer service team has adjusted the dimensions manually.
PS: Only floater frames can be ordered in custom sizes. Stretched canvases and stretcher bars are excluded and only available in the specified centimetre increments.
With the exception of the oak and walnut versions, floater frames can be ordered as standard up to the following dimensions:
- shorter side: max. 160 cm
- longer side: max. 280 cm
A size of 160 × 280 cm can therefore be ordered directly in the online shop. Larger sizes where the short side exceeds 160 cm, for example 180 × 200 cm or larger, are not available as standard for organisational and shipping reasons.
Larger sizes only for large-scale projects
We cannot offer sizes outside these limits as single items or in small quantities. A review only makes sense for large-scale projects with high quantities, where all frames can be delivered together, without individual cardboard packaging, by separate consolidated transport to one delivery address.
No. Floater frames are not classic picture frames or clip frames. They have neither a glass pane nor a closing back panel and are therefore not suitable for framing posters or photos. Instead, they are used to frame stretched canvases and canvas pictures. The canvas is placed in the floater frame and screwed in from the back.
PS: Panel pictures on Dibond, Forex or wood also look great in floater frames.
Things to note when unpacking
Removing the transport brace
For certain sizes, we stabilise the floater frame for transport with a simple wooden batten. It can easily be removed with a Torx 15 screwdriver and thrown away.
Separating the floater frame and the stretched canvas
If your delivery contains both a floater frame and a stretched canvas of the same size, we have screwed them together for safe transport. Simply undo the screws to release the stretched canvas. Please have a Torx 15 screwdriver to hand.
How do I mount my finished picture in the floater frame?
To fix your stretcher frame in the floater frame, you need screws, a screwdriver and spacers (e.g. made of wood, MDF, plastic, felt or cardboard). Make sure the spacers are of even thickness so that the picture sits centrally in the frame. >> To the instructions
Yes, both are possible. It makes no difference whether you order a stretched canvas or floater frame in, for example, 50 × 70 cm or 70 × 50 cm – both sizes are technically identical.
Floater frames are already pre-drilled so that you can screw the stretcher frame in from the back. When inserting the picture, you can mount it in either portrait or landscape format. Floater frames can of course also be hung either way. For this, we recommend our floater frame hangers, which can be used flexibly for portrait or landscape format.
Yes, our floater frames are also suitable for pictures on aluminium Dibond, MDF or wooden panels. Simply order the frame in the size of your picture. We automatically make it slightly larger on the inside, so that there is an even gap of approx. 0.6 cm all round.
How is the picture fixed in the frame?
- MDF and wooden panels: If they are thick enough, they can be screwed directly to the floater frame from the back. Make sure the screws are not too long.
- Aluminium Dibond: Here we recommend gluing narrow wooden battens to the back of the picture. You can then screw the picture to the battens from the back through the frame.
What if the picture sits too deep in the frame?
Thin panels sometimes sit a little deeper in the floater frame. You can place small pieces of wood or felt underneath to raise the picture slightly, so that it sits less deep in the frame.
Pay attention to the rebate depth of the floater frame. The glued-on wooden battens also need to fit inside it.
