Professional Gesso Primer from Canvasi: for vibrant and long-lasting artwork

The Canvasi Gesso Primer gives you the perfect mix straight from the bottle, so you can smooth and seal surfaces perfectly. The primer also supports the colour intensity and depth of your artwork. Gesso primer is a titanium white paint mixture made from calcium carbonate, acrylic polymer and pigment, among other ingredients.

On unprimed painting surfaces, the paint film sits directly on the canvas, where it can attack and damage the fibres. Not with the Gesso Universal Primer! It protects your canvas from deterioration in the long term. The Canvasi primer is not only practical, it can also be used creatively. Give your surface a texture and create a good base for abstract art or relief-like work.

How to apply the gesso primer correctly

1. Before using the Gesso Universal Primer, make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of dust and oil.
2. Use a brush to apply a thin, even layer of primer to the surface. Always work in the same direction.
3. Leave to dry for 24 hours.

Optional:

1. Once the surface is completely dry, you can remove any ridges and brush marks with fine sandpaper.
2. Want to apply another coat of gesso primer? Then apply it in the opposite direction to the previous coat.
3. You can repeat this process as often as you like.

Good to know

• Storage and shelf life: Store the Gesso Primer at approx. 21 °C and 50% humidity in its original packaging. Stored as recommended, the primer will keep for at least one year.
• Flexibility: Our Gesso Primer is flexible enough to withstand loose rolling and restretching at room temperature. Paint layers become more brittle below 10 °C, so they should not be stretched, bent or rolled under these conditions. The universal primer withstands expansion and contraction caused by changes in temperature and humidity.
• Drying time: A wet film of approx. 0.13 mm cures within one hour at room temperatures above 18 °C and humidity below 70%. Lower temperatures and/or higher humidity can affect drying.
